UV Lights for HVAC Explained
UV-C light has been used in hospitals for decades — now the same technology can neutralize mold and bacteria inside your ductwork.

The written guide below covers everything this lesson will explain.
How UV lights keep your HVAC system clean and your air healthier.
How It Works
A UV light is installed inside your air handler or ductwork, shining UV-C light onto the evaporator coil and the air passing through. UV-C energy damages the DNA of mold, bacteria, and some viruses so they can't reproduce.
Installed at the coil, a UV light also keeps the wet indoor coil clean — preventing the mold and slime that can grow there during cooling season and reduce efficiency.
The light runs automatically whenever your system runs, treating the air continuously with no maintenance beyond an annual bulb change.
The Benefits
- Neutralizes mold, bacteria, and some viruses
- Keeps the indoor coil clean and efficient
- Works automatically with your system
- Only annual bulb replacement needed

Frequently Asked Questions
Are UV lights safe?
Yes. They're sealed inside your ductwork where the UV-C light can't reach you or your family — they only treat the air and coil as it passes by.
Do UV lights help with allergies?
They can, by reducing airborne mold and bacteria. They're most effective paired with good filtration and humidity control.
How long do UV bulbs last?
Typically 12–18 months. Our maintenance plan includes bulb checks so yours is always effective.
